Welcome to Inner Oaks Holistic Approach Experiences
We are located in the heart of Quinan, N.S. a quaint French Acadian village in Yarmouth County, about 25 minutes inland from Yarmouth.
We invite you to join us at Inner Oaks for an on-site visit to explore our collection of fresh herbs, tour the nursery, enjoy a tisane on the covered veranda, take in a Culinary or Soul Boost Nova Scotia experience, and visit our gift shop.
We grow an abundance of culinary herbs — including oregano, basil, sage, thyme, chives, lemon verbena, holy basil, tarragon and lavender, to name just a few. We also grow seasonal vegetables and berries.
We are open seasonally by appointment — reach out by email at inneroaks@gmail.com. Coordinates and directions are provided once your appointment is confirmed. We’re located in Quinan, in southwest Nova Scotia, and open from mid-April until mid-October. You can also follow us on FB Inner Oaks Holistic Approach for our latest updates.
Get immersed in the experience of Inner Oaks by seeing our most recent video:
In September, our community hosts a Labour Day picnic, and occasionally a spring wild game evening, both organized by local volunteers. These events take place at our community hall.
In its day, Quinan was well known for hunting and fishing - people came from far and wide to connect with our local guides. One such guide was Pierre Vacon, a dear departed friend of ours. He once shared the story of a guest who was so fast and accurate with a rock that he could hunt rabbits and partridge with it. That guest turned out to be none other than the legendary baseball player, Babe Ruth.
We are also known for our dark skies. Just down the road from Inner Oaks is Deep Sky Observatory, where Tim and Amanda offer guided night-sky viewing through telescopes — a truly unique experience. https://www.deepskyeye.com/
Many years ago, our community was referred to as “The Forks,” and by our Mi’kmaq ancestors as Mawtoqag — the place where two rivers meet and flow together. The Quinan River flows into the Tusket River, and Inner Oaks is located directly on the Quinan River, not far from where the rivers join.
In the spring, as we sip herbal beverages on the covered veranda beside the river, we often see outdoor enthusiasts in canoes and kayaks In the summer months, the area comes alive with cold-water immersions in winter, and swimming, and playing in the rapids over the warm summer months.
We felt this was the perfect place to establish Inner Oaks Holistic Approach Experiences
The word “Inner” was chosen to reflect inner healing, and “Oaks” for the oak trees that line the property — symbols of strength. Their roots intertwine underground with such grace, supporting and communicating with one another. It’s remarkable how the older trees look out for the younger ones, guiding them in ways that show their love and interconnectedness.
Much like a seed being planted, Inner Oaks will continue to grow and expand in its services, as we pour love, attention, and nurturing into this beautiful property. We look forward to welcoming you.
* The herb and gift shop is currently open seasonally, by appointment.
Meet Laura Muise, your host.
Welcome,
When the opportunity arose to build, design, and establish a registered herb nursery and gift shop in Southwest Nova Scotia, Laura Muise embraced this new chapter with open arms and a full heart.
When the opportunity arose to build, design, and establish a registered herb nursery and gift shop in Southwest Nova Scotia, Laura Muise embraced this new chapter with open arms and a full heart.
Born into a large and loving family with seven siblings, Laura grew up by the ocean, where life was deeply connected to nature, sibling rivalry, and hard work. Her family fished, harvested Irish moss, raised livestock, hunted wild game, tended gardens, and foraged wild foods. She credits her strong work ethic to the example set by her hardworking family, who taught her the value of perseverance and dedication.
Laura’s career in hospitality began as a teenager, and she remained in the industry for over four decades. Passionate about her work, she thrived in restaurant and tourism settings, building a reputation for excellence through her commitment to service, creativity, and a genuine love for connecting with people. She attributes her success to joyful determination, an unwavering passion for food, and the steadfast support of her guests and family.
Fifteen years ago, Laura launched Laura’s Tastes, a platform where she shared her culinary adventures, food photography, and travel experiences. She gained a loyal following by showcasing local foods and fresh seafood, documenting regional cuisine through film, and hosting immersive food experiences for visitors.
In time, she took on a new challenge - opening The Hatfield House Restaurant and Culinary Experiences, a distinctive dining destination set in a historic home in Tusket, NS. The restaurant became known for its intimate 65 - seat setting, offering old-fashion foods, fresh seafood, and curated culinary experiences. Laura played a hands-on role in every aspect of the business, working in both front- and back-of-house operations. She infused creativity into every detail - including the menu and the design of herb gardens on the property. In 2017, she made the thoughtful decision to sell the restaurant, choosing to focus on family and new creative pursuits.
Though she had planned to step away from the hospitality sector, life had other exciting plans.
Now an accomplished author, Laura’s book, Inheritance Revealed, is a compelling blend of memoir and spiritual exploration, guiding readers toward deeper self-awareness and authenticity. This transformative work encourages breaking free from limiting patterns and embracing personal growth. Whether seeking inspiration, clarity, or a connection to universal energies, Inheritance Revealed offers a roadmap to healing and expansion. It debuted as a #1 bestseller in spiritual inspiration on Amazon upon its release. It was through Laura’s personal enlightenment that Soul Boost Nova Scotia was created.
Three years before publishing Inheritance Revealed, Laura felt a profound calling back to food and hospitality, this time with a focus on mindfulness and well-being. Spiritually guided, she founded Inner Oaks, a project that aligns with her core values and passion for holistic living. She honours Mother Earth and embraces a health-conscious approach, now offering experiences that nourish the mind, body, and spirit.
Today, Laura invites you to join her for a Culinary or Soul Boost Experience at Inner Oaks - designed to inspire, uplift, and delight, ensuring every guest leaves with a heart full of joy and a spirit ignited by possibility.
